New Anyone watch the YouTube "debate"?
I watched most of it. The impact it had upon me was that I am now less inclined to participate than ever. Vapid, privileged class trolls the majority of them, Dennis and Gravel (neither of whom stands one chance in hell of winning) excepted. In one of the debates I saw, in response to a question about why he was running, Gravel answered, "Some of these people up here scare the hell out of me." I join him in his fear.

Gore is the only viable candidate worth walking across the street to vote for and he'll probably not run nor be drafted at the convention (which is what the idiot delegates would do if they have any damned sense, which they won't. The money will make sure that only idiot rubber-stampers attend the gala event).

A stupid man's report of what a clever man says can never be accurate, because he unconsciously translates what he hears into something he can understand.
Bertrand Russell
New It was amusing
Didn't watch the whole thing but what I did see was amusing. They obviously picked through the submissions more with an eye for what would televise well then what would challenge the candidates. But that is to be expected, and the question where no worse then the usual fare fobbed on the candidates.

New 'Dialup'-constrained.. re Sig, though -
Nice one, which I missed amidst Bertie's massive lifetime opera..

Seems to be the geneis for the Hottentot quip [or fill in any presumed-heathen-Logo]
(and applicable in deconstruction of Lord of the Flies)
(which leads on into ...)

A 'civilized' person can simulate a Barbarian, but not vice versa..

There's Lots of good stuff too, in the [First Evah ?!?] current Equal-Time for-the-Opposition series, A Brief History of Disbelief, hosted by a suitably low-key, oft wry non-theologian. Snippets:

The Necessity of Atheism by Percy!
(yep, - Bysshe Shelley, anothe poet drowned ~ age 30. Have always suspected Fatherland Security on that boat trip.. Keats probably nailed by a proto-Repo du jour?) They were not amused at Percy's University. He left.

Then a Universal Panacea within one quip ~~
"It is not so much that most people manifest 'a belief in god' so much as, 'a belief in the Belief in God'"

Recursion for reprobates?

Then there's David Hume.

New There was an interesting article on local current affairs.
[link|http://www.abc.net.au/7.30/content/2007/s1987366.htm|"US presidential campaign goes live online"].

KERRY O'BRIEN: As we reported last week, Australia's politicians are now starting to engage with cyberspace campaigning, but America's presidential candidates are already zooming along in the fast lane.

And they're discovering the benefits and perils in what's being called the YouTube election.

The internet may be an effective way to get the message out and raise funds, but it's also demonstrating a great capacity for the rapid and largely uncontrollable release of embarrassing or damaging moments.

Last night the candidates experienced the latest use of new media - the first presidential CNN/YouTube debate.

I also liked this grab near the end:

CAROL DARR: In presidential campaigns, you have to raise so much money so fast that before the internet you were forced to go to big donors. You just couldn't rely on small donors. The internet has changed that and allowed the small donors to come to the candidates. And so it is possible to run a campaign on small donations now.

You can also watch the actual report - it's about 7 minutes - by downloading a WMV or a RM version. Or, for a short time, you can watch a Flash-plugin version on [link|http://www.abc.net.au/7.30|http://www.abc.net.au/7.30] and select the article by name on the right.

Wade.

Is it enough to love
Is it enough to breathe
Somebody rip my heart out
And leave me here to bleed

Is it enough to die
Somebody save my life
I'd rather be Anything but Ordinary
Please
