New A measure of the general public's anti-cluefulness here -
All she should have needed to say in defense, at the outset -

Your Honor, my school system uses Microsoft Windows\ufffd.
Few such systems, connected to a high speed network can be relied upon to remain malware free - beyond "several minutes", in many cases. I have some professional estimates along these lines and a (partial) listing of thousands of known similar examples, now infecting millions of users of this 'system'.

Judge:
Case dismissed - demonstrably No One is Safe, using this product.

No. The lesson from this is most of us are subject to the whims of Microsoft Windows.

Although occasionally, when some new nastiness rises above the daily influx of minor Root-kits, it is heartening to see the phrase ...

"..affecting Microsoft Windows"

They haven't ascended to the correct form yet, even on these exceptional reports -

"..affecting ONLY Microsoft Windows; Apple, Linux and others are still free to roam about the planet. Meanwhile, the total US deaths in Iraq passed 3502, this date. A car crash occurred at ___"

New Yes and no....
she shouldn't have been criminally charged.

But she shouldn't be allowed in the classroom either. She's surfing the net when she's supposed to be teaching? (And she doesn't know how to turn a computer off - or pull the plug?)

But maybe we'll learn more from Mark Lounsbury.

New According to some of the reports I have
she was using the net (at least originally) to check her aol mail.

Shrug, I don't care if she was surfing the net or not (although the prosecution points out that she was written up for not paying enough attention to her students).

I don't care if she or someone else clicked on link (or typed a URL) or if it was spyware. Once it started showing porno pics, it's time to pull the plug on the computer (end of story).

I don't favor her being charged....but I wouldn't want her looking after my kids either.
New Hey! Surfing instead of learning is actually encouraged now.

It would seem, therefore, that the three human impulses embodied in religion are fear, conceit, and hatred. The purpose of religion, one might say, is to give an air of respectibility to these passions. -- Bertrand Russell
