Auto mouse mover utility?
I find myself in need of an automatic mouse mover. Recent policy has put a passworded screensaver lock in place for our systems after 15 minutes of "inactivity". This is causing problems with our operations team who have many systems that are meant for monitoring and don't generally have a lot of user input. I'm looking for a windows utility that will let me tell it to move the mouse if no activity has been detected for X minutes. The few I've seen during a google search didn't sit well with me after the popunder ads and blocked popups generated by the hosting site.
Any tips?

Seems Ideal for a Trojan.
Is python an option? If so, [link|http://www.thescripts.com/forum/thread21158.html|here's] an answer with the basics of moving the mouse pointer to the center of a window.
I'd be very wary of using a precompiled mouse mover or keyboard simulator that I downloaded due to the possibility of it being a trojan.
Good luck.
Cheers, Scott.

Trojans; That's what I was thinking
I'll check with the script guy and see if he can help.

Thanks. Why didn't I think of that?

better idea
if that is not an option allow a crucial monitoring box to go dark, when the inevitable happens explain that the screen saver was in place so no monitoring could be done. thanx, bill

Cute. I put together a reghack that takes care of it.
It has to be run on each reboot but it works.

It's a crap shoot
If they can put into place a policy without having thought through the need for potential exemptions, they probably won't see that it was their folly that caused the problem.

It'll get fixed eventually.
This was meant as added security for the CC processing folks and some bright MBA decided to make it a universal policy. I give it 3 months before it's restricted just to the CC processors.

Then 1) put it in the post
and 2) train your staff.
Cause I would bet that if you are not allowed to do that after repeated attempts...and you load a hack like this that you are going to be in more trouble than its worth.

Not required
Run an endless looping mpeg video in a tiny box in the corner. The screen saver will never kick in.

OK, maybe next time...
...write a screensaver app that shows all the stats that need monitoring.
Or ... could you set the screensaver to be explorer.exe? :)
Two out of three people wonder where the other one is.

May not work
Corporate mandated the same policy here - they have something that enforces it by removing the screen saver tab from Display Properties and changing the SCRNSAVE.EXE registry setting. I used to run regedit and reset to [link|http://www.realtimesoft.com/ultramon/|ultramon]. I ended up writing a short VB app and stashing it in my startup folder.

A VB app...? Did you try just the .REG file?

never heard of that before
Our PC tech may know about that; but, I already had routines for saving/reading registry settings for our apps, so I didn't feel the need to research another way to do it.

Quaint solution:

Could also be used as a prank. But it is a neat item in any case. Though $30 plus shipping is a bit steep.
