You know it was a stage joke, right?
I remember the same damn joke from Ranger training. One sheet of toilet paper, fold it into a cone, tear of the tip, wrap around finger, insert finger and rotate, use the tip to clean your fingernail.

I just read the article, no mention of humor anywhere
I did not read her blog for the direct quotes. As far as using less paper, in back country canoe trips we only used one rag, tied to the stern for the entire trip. It can be done. thanc, bill

Soviet toilet paper?
That was a *luxury*. The public toilets I went to used Pravda.

It would seem, therefore, that the three human impulses embodied in religion are fear, conceit, and hatred. The purpose of religion, one might say, is to give an air of respectibility to these passions. -- Bertrand Russell

dunno, but this study indicates
[link|http://carbs.com/articles/americans-are-digging-their-graves-with-their-teeth-death-begins-in-the-colon.html|http://carbs.com/art...in-the-colon.html] Dr. Burkitt\ufffds conclusions were based upon the stool transit time of the two populations. Stool transit time is the amount of time it takes for food to enter the mouth and then exit the body; He observed that native Africans had an 18-24 hour stool transit time. On the other hand, the British naval officers\ufffd wives\ufffd stool transit time was 48 hours to one week. Dr. Burkitt also observed that the average weight of the natives\ufffd stool was approximately 16 ounces. At the same time the British naval officers\ufffd wives\ufffd stools averaged only 5 ounces. Burkitt eventually concluded that the naval officers\ufffd wives suffered from a long list of degenerative diseases because of a toxic bowel that resulted from a lack of fiber in their diet. The native Africans managed to avoid these diseases because they had healthy digestive systems as a result of their high fiber diet. thanx, bill bill

"Chicago to my mind was the only place to be. ... I above all liked the city because it was filled with people all a-bustle, and the clatter of hooves and carriages, and with delivery wagons and drays and peddlers and the boom and clank of freight trains. And when those black clouds came sailing in from the west, pouring thunderstorms upon us so that you couldn't hear the cries or curses of humankind, I liked that best of all. Chicago could stand up to the worst God had to offer. I understood why it was built--a place for trade, of course, with railroads and ships and so on, but mostly to give all of us a magnitude of defiance that is not provided by one house on the plains. And the plains is where those storms come from." -- E.L. Doctorow
