Is this a good time to tell you...
...that my ISP will be upgrading me to 20Mbps shortly, for no extra charge?

I've been watching my 1.5 mbps DSL line . . .
. . while doing downloads for years. Only one IBM server was ever able to saturate the DSL.
Conclusion: a faster service won't do me a bit of good because the servers out there can't deliver anywhere near 1.5mbps.

I wish
My DSL got flaky for a few days. Turns out someone turned me up to 1.5M and I'm too far from the office to sustain that. Was getting too many errors and dropped packets. The tech turned me down to 768K and I'm good again.
Before this week, I had been no higher than 384K.

you live in one of our areas?
[link|http://www.multichannel.com/article/CA6417004.html|http://www.multichan...le/CA6417004.html] One beneficial consequence of Katrina is that the New Orleans and Greater Louisiana systems are ahead of some other Cox systems in terms of its Extendable Optical Network, or E.O.N., initiative, Cox\ufffds company-wide plant upgrade project.
\ufffdThey [New Orleans] became our first system to really implement E.O.N., because we were having to rebuild anyway, so we [thought we] might as well do it right,\ufffd Kroeger said. \ufffdAnd they are very close to being finished. Baton Rouge has got a little more time to go, but they\ufffdre also doing very well with that.\ufffd verrah fast upload and download speeds. thanx, bill

I don't feel (quite) so bad now being stuck at 3.5...

Downstream is fine - upstream sucks
Comcast "High Speed" here.
Downstream is quite respectable, however I manage a server or two in Canada and uploading data to them happens at a mind numbing 45k/second. Most annoying.
We posture as apostles of fair play, as good sportsmen, as professional knights-errant-- and we throw beer bottles at the umpire when he refuses to cheat for our side...We save the black-and-tan republics from their native [statesmen]--and flood them with "deserving" democrats of our own. We deafen the world with our whoops for liberty--and submit to laws that destroy our most sacred rights...We play policeman and Sunday-school superintendent to half of Christendom--and lynch a darky every two days in our own backyard.
