New # of lost emails: possibly over 5 MILLION

In a startling new revelation, CREW has also learned through two confidential sources that the Executive Office of the President (EOP) has lost over five million emails generated between March 2003 and October 2005. The White House counsels office was advised of these problems in 2005 and CREW has been told that the White House was given a plan of action to recover these emails, but to date nothing has been done to rectify this significant loss of records.

Melanie Sloan, executive director of CREW, said today, Its clear that the White House has been willfully violating the law, the only question now is to what extent? The ever changing excuses offered by the administration that they didnt want to violate the Hatch Act, that staff wasnt clear on the law are patently ridiculous. Very convenient that embarrassing and potentially incriminating emails have gone missing. Its the Nixon White House all over again.

"Chicago to my mind was the only place to be. ... I above all liked the city because it was filled with people all a-bustle, and the clatter of hooves and carriages, and with delivery wagons and drays and peddlers and the boom and clank of freight trains. And when those black clouds came sailing in from the west, pouring thunderstorms upon us so that you couldn't hear the cries or curses of humankind, I liked that best of all. Chicago could stand up to the worst God had to offer. I understood why it was built--a place for trade, of course, with railroads and ships and so on, but mostly to give all of us a magnitude of defiance that is not provided by one house on the plains. And the plains is where those storms come from." -- E.L. Doctorow

New you mean to tell me the people who are tapping phones
and spying on everyone else's IP traffic can't find their own emails?

I don't buy it.

We posture as apostles of fair play, as good sportsmen, as professional knights-errant-- and we throw beer bottles at the umpire when he refuses to cheat for our side...We save the black-and-tan republics from their native [statesmen]--and flood them with "deserving" democrats of our own. We deafen the world with our whoops for liberty--and submit to laws that destroy our most sacred rights...We play policeman and Sunday-school superintendent to half of Christendom--and lynch a darky every two days in our own backyard.

The backup tapes are in "...a locked filing cabinet, in a disused lavatory, with a sign on the door saying 'Beware of the Leopard'."

New In the basement.
New Laura Bush's Closet?
Seamus
New No, that's where it was in HHGTTG, which Peter was quoting.
The basement of the municipal council building, open to the public for fifteen minutes every third Thursday of the month, or some such... In short, designed not to be very accessible while still being able to claim it's on public display.

This was written before Laura Bush became a public figure (at least to the extent that Douglas Adams over here on this side of the Atlantic could be expected to know of her).

It was a bad joke to begin with, a failed reference to Hillary's closest and the treasure trove of evidence found there.
Seamus
New Oh? Evidence of what; when, where? Just wondering.
Evidence of Whitewater crookedness in the master bedroom closet of the Gubernatorial mansion in Little Rock? Did *Hilary* have that famous blue dress in her closet at the White House? Evidence that she personally killed wossname, the guy who's supposed to have committed suicide, in the closet of her "New York Yankees Superfan Senator" Washington, D.C pied-a-terre?

Even when you explain the reference, I don't get it.

I'm still ignorant, but now I'm curious, too.

New billing records - not the closet lesbian charge

Shortly after Vince Foster's death on July 20, 1993, a group of files were moved from his office to a closet near Hillary's office in the Clintons' personal quarters on the third floor of the White House.

One item which may have been among those files were the billing records from the Rose Law Firm which documented Hillary Clinton's legal work on Jim McDougal's Castle Grande real estate deal...

It was a really bad joke about hiding records, and that maybe the missing emails where hiding in Laura's closet.
