Only if you don't have an iPod
The iTunes Helper is what detects iPods.
Personally, if things aren't causing problems (and let's face it - working out memory usage on a modern UNIX, where you've got memory mapped files and shared memory and all that shit going on, is a non-trivial task) I'd leave them be.
