McCain acknowledges in a "60 Minutes" interview that his support for the "surge" in Iraq means that "I disagree with what the majority of the American people want." He also says that he regrets making what turned out to be entirely delusional comments about public safety in Baghdad. But in McCain's telling, it's all just part of the fun of who he is and what he does. "Of course I am going to misspeak, and I've done it on numerous occasions and I probably will do it in the future," the Arizona senator says in the interview. "I regret that when I divert attention to something I said from my message, but you know, that's just life. I'm happy, frankly, with the way I operate, otherwise it would be *a lot less fun*." I mean, ya gots to give the man credit. It's a Wonder-ful Fun-derful Old World; all ya needsta do is Look on the Bwight Side.

He just doesn't quite get the fact that when you try to create an alternative reality, such as with the security situation in Iraq, you can't even mention the reality you are trying to get away from. More from the TPM: He continues to maintain that the president\ufffds surge policy has improved safety in Baghdad. \ufffdI can understand why [the Army] would provide me with that security, but I can tell you that if it had been two months ago and I\ufffdd asked to do it, they would have said, \ufffdUnder no circumstances whatsoever.\ufffd I view that as a sign of progress,\ufffd says McCain. Way too little, John, way too late for that bit of progress to be effective propaganda. Seamus
