Still hosed
After install completed.
No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key
And this is ALSO when I put the disk on an Adaptec SATA controller.

Have you tried a Feisty beta?
The forum you linked had a [link|http://dev.osso.nl/peter/blog/2006/12/28/why-intel-dg965ot-sucks-balls/#comment-1932|comment] that a Feisty beta worked. It didn't say which one, but presumaby [link|http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/herd5#head-de3d3f8b48e23a9bdc7294cc93da21f483949673|herd 5] would do the trick.
Haven't tried it myself, caveat emptor, etc.
Good luck.
Cheers, Scott.

Yes
That is how I got past the CD-ROM issue.
I've slapped a 9GB noisy Cheetah and am installing to that right now.

Success on SCSI
Now let's see if I can plug in the SATA and use it as a 2nd disk.

Almost done
Boot SCSI, operational on the SATA.
But this SCSI is way too hot and noisy, so I'll swap to a different one tomorrow.

Ok, 4GB SCSI disk is the answer
Installed Feisty to it.
On first boot, it gave me a grub menu, which includes listing the other 300GB SATA disk. So I modified the default to boot to the SATA disk, and go on from there.
Run cool, with a bit of a whine, but a hell of a lot quieter than the last system.
Now building up the system, a package at a time.

Seems like a painful way to go.
Why did you use SCSI? Just because you didn't have an ATA controller card on the shelf? Would an add-on ATA controller solve the problem, or would it have the same issues?
Surely a sub-10 GB SCSI drive is ancient. You're not going to use it very long, are you? What's your ultimate plan for the final drives configuration?
Inquiring minds want to know! :-)
Cheers, Scott.

I got lotsa IDE
But I figured since I already had problems with the IDE controller, I didn't want to invite any more issues.
The speed of the SCSI has no issue, it is used strictly as a Grub launch point. Everything is SATA after that point.
So now, the only thing that bothers me is the slight whine. I'll be seeing of there are any utilities available to issue a power down to it.
I just spent a bit of time installing X and KDE. And I stumbled across Beryl. I love it.
Ultimately, I'll probably setup a USB memory stick as the boot manager and yank out the SCSI disk. But for now, it is a small price to pay to let me get back to work.
