New Iran releases British Soldiers
"Our government has pardoned them, it is a gift from our people\ufffd he said. \ufffdIt has nothing to do with this analysis. If we were to move forward on that basis things would have looked different. We approached the subject on a humanitarian basis. It was a unilateral decision on our end."

One wonders what the back story really is.
Seamus
New Looks like an agreement to disagree
Iran is pardoning them and setting them free. That way the UK can continue to claim that Iran was wrong and Iran can continue to claim the UK was wrong.

The Iranian's probably looked at the situation and decided they had nothing further to gain from holding the soldiers. Insofar as they where violating a contested border, Iran had made it's point. And holding the soldiers further would make them look bad, nor was their any more propaganda to be gained from showing them on television.

New I think that they are to be given pardons is the back story
They have confessions and are being pardoned which in Iranian Lights is a victory and they can always claim they were in the right. It also highlights to the US that their troops could be next.

New I keep thinking that there is something more
Like maybe they finally realized that shrub is just crazy enough to use this situation to help him invade Iran.
Seamus
New That's pretty much what I thought
They played a careful balancing act, and didn't want to take it anywhere close to the edge because Bush is already way way over that edge.
New Check out the picture

I don't have a specific link, but right now CNN is showing a group picture of the soldiers. Publicity piece taken by Iran, obviously after they where told they where going home.

But what strikes me is that the men have all been dressed in new suits, the woman however looks like she was dressed in a thrift shop.
