New White House in fight over subpoenas
[link|http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/03/21/us.attorneys.firings/index.html|CNN]
The House Judiciary Committee planned to vote on authorizing subpoenas of White House officials Wednesday in the firings of eight U.S. attorneys.

Congressional Democrats on Tuesday rejected President Bush's offer to let the officials give unsworn, off-the-record testimony, saying lack of transcripts would prevent them from challenging any inconsistencies.

It looks like Bush is going on the offense to keep Rove out from under oath. The no oath, no transcript offer is an obvious looser. Doing it without being under oath is bad enough, be demanding that Congress not make any record of what they said is outright absurd.

New Good comments by Bruce Fein on C-SPAN this morning.
I assume the video and/or transcript isn't available yet. Fein made an excellent case the Bush is over-reaching and Congress needs to be able to question the folks under oath. However, he also said that if Bush takes it to court then he wins because the clock will run out before any final ruling is made.

Cheers,
Scott.
