The player can see all of the songs but the album dataset gets unuseable. It sounds like you're hitting the file limit in the root directory, but if you were doing that, you wouldn't be able to create the extra folder, either. It looks like the player's firmware has a playlist size limit. Perhaps a firmware upgrade is the go? Wade. "Don't give up!"
