New Me too
Most of the friends that I made in High School, College, etc have either moved out of state, lost contact with me, or killed themselves. Well maybe only a few have killed themselves, something about my generation self destructing or something. The rest have lost contact with me in some way after moving out of state or changing their local address or phone numbers. I had a lot of BBS friends, but when the Internet took over, they moved to the Internet and dropped out of the BBS world. I even used to run a local BBS named The Pentagon that had five SYSOPS and a whole ton of Online games (War simulators, Tradewars, etc).

I was in Rolla from 1986-1987 in a Fraternity, I dropped out and went back to Saint Louis when the tuition hike hit (Thank you so much Mr. Reagan), and my life savings was drying up. Plus it was very stressful for me, and I needed to quit for my mental health. I also got into the party scene a bit and drank booze and smoked cigars. I only had myself to blame for messing up, but I made a lot of friends there. Just haven't seen them since. I did pay off my student loan. I went back to St. Louis and went to a community college to get my Associate degree in Data processing with the programming option. Most of the people I worked with moved on, but a few of them still work there at the college from when I worked at that college and also helped them run their BBS as a Co-Sysop. I voice validated users, backed up the BBS (This was back when we used 360K floppies and the DOS backup program).

It seems that when someone learns about my depression, they kind of stay away from me. I try to keep it a secret, but eventually people find out or figure it out.

New Not so me too
Thankfully I've got a reasonable collection of offline friends. However, I am intimately acquainted with melancholia. It's caused me to some rather bad career limiting maneuvers.
To make things difficult I'm now out of work and the job market here is tight. On top of that the unemployment benefit here in Oz is pitiful at best and is managed on the assumption that all receipients are potential fraudsters.
Oh and to make matters worse I'm living in an area classified as low unemployment, so if I move elsewhere to try my luck I'd immediately be subject to severe penalties in payment.
Just to put it in perspective the maximum suplement without 'extras' is AU$260 per fortnight. To get the extras requires going through a lot of beuracratic hurdles on top of those just to get the basic supplement. And this is supposed to provide assistance while looking for work...
Not only that I've got a friend whose bi-polar and is in the throes of a pretty intense episode. On top of that she's started to develop some paranoia.
It's bloody hard for a depressive to just be there for a bi-polar. Especially since she's starting to alienate herself from her close friends.
New Bi-polar and Paranoia sounds like Grygus's ex-emp
Be good and be careful.
thanx,

New Eh?
Grygus's ex-emp

What the hell is that? Some Greek mythology I missed?
With this much manure around, there must be a pony somewhere.
New No, no, the (certified) crazy one is . .
. . not particularly paranoid, just loony (and subject to depression). The paranoid one is Rose (not her real name (which is also not her real name)), my accounting person, who prefers the terms "privacy" and "prudence" (and is quite concerned that the things I say about Microsoft could negatively impact her job security).

Of course, who am I to point fingers? I'm in the "Information Technology" business, prima facia evidence that there's bats in the bell tower.

New Uh, Andrew... Can I?
Can I, please? Pretty please, with sugar on top?

New Good news
Happiness,
My bi-polar friend has started to become 'normal'. She's responded to her medication and therapy and sorted out a few issues.
It's reassuring to know that I'm not one of those issues that had to be abandoned.
We, being her, myself and her flatmate had a great pig-out on pancakes for Shrove Tuesday.
Yum!!!!

New Glad to hear it - good news makes such a nice change...
New Best friend from high school
He got married without me knowing about it, moved to Boston, moved back to Chicago without me knowing about it.

It's a strange life we lead when we lose touch with our old friends. And worse, when we lose touch even with online friends. I had one on the old info service GEnie, Phil Boetge (I think that was the spelling), who I have totally lost touch with.
