Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Finally got the offer to convert from contract to full-time
I had "the talk" about three-and-a-half weeks ago. When she asked what I expected to make, I told her, and she actually gasped. Said, "Yeah, that's why we like consulting." (Her most recent gig before this was consulting for Accenture. She took a full-time gig so she could stay home more with her son.)

She said she'd have to go check if she could offer me that much. Finally came back today. Told me that she had been considering me for $position_foo, but was now looking at me for $senior_position_foo. She had to bump me up a pay grade to offer what I asked for. I also asked for three weeks' vacation to start, instead of the typical two weeks. She said that's not a definite yet, but could still happen after she talks to HR.

It'll be nice, for the first time in a couple of years, to be able to take some time off and not lose money for it.

New That's a Woo and a Yay!
Slightly OT question: If you don't take your two weeks of leave in a year, it does accrue to the next year, right?

Or is there nobody silly enough to not fit two weeks of leave into their year?
Two out of three people wonder where the other one is.
New Most places only let you accumulate so much...
New Because our country is a work camp
I start by asking for 5 weeks, explaining I've lived in Europe. I never get it by I annoy the piss out of most HR types. Good.

"Chicago to my mind was the only place to be. ... I above all liked the city because it was filled with people all a-bustle, and the clatter of hooves and carriages, and with delivery wagons and drays and peddlers and the boom and clank of freight trains. And when those black clouds came sailing in from the west, pouring thunderstorms upon us so that you couldn't hear the cries or curses of humankind, I liked that best of all. Chicago could stand up to the worst God had to offer. I understood why it was built--a place for trade, of course, with railroads and ships and so on, but mostly to give all of us a magnitude of defiance that is not provided by one house on the plains. And the plains is where those storms come from." -- E.L. Doctorow
