Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Interestingly, I have never seen such a thing . . .
. . here in Southern California, despite our large Islamic population. Islamic women here generally wear head scarves, often loosly applied and sometimes downright skimpy, but some wear a more severe black head covering. Never a veil of any kind.

I'm a little ambivilant on the subject, but if it came down to making a choice I'd favor a ban, particularly since such garb is increasingly used as a cover for terrorist activity. I can not, however, see banning the simple head coverings I see here.

New I don't see them much, either.
In the parts of Sydney I frequent - i.e. the Sutherland Shire where I live and North Sydney where I work - burqas are very rare and naqibs almost completely absent. On the other hand, haijibs are widespread, but tend to stand out.

When I was working elsewhere in Sydney a few years ago, I drove daily through a strongly Muslim suburb. At one bus-stop nearly every morning was a lady in full burqa and naqib with her children waiting for the school bus. That is the *only* consistent siting of a naqib I have.

Interestingly, my parents helped the Red Cross some years ago when Australia housed some Kosovo refugees for a while. The refugees' religious affiliation was Islamic, but it seemed to be somewhat Westernised: the traditional forms of dress were nowhere to be seen.

New Burqa *and* naqib?
I bet she was warm.

New I don't really know.
She was fully covered in loose black, except for a narrow eye-slit. From Wikipedia's descriptions, I think that would qualify as both.

New No, that's a niqab.
It can't be both.

New I stand corrected.
"Don't give up!"
New I see them now and then
I see the full body covering clothing here in Philadelphia and northern suburbs every now and then. The most common combination is a big fully body robe with long sleeves and a separate head scarf. The true Burqa, where the head covering is part of the robe is rare.

Head scarves worn with regular clothing are a lot more common.

Of course I'm also going by a lot more people walking through the Suburban station rail/subway interchange every day.
