Yep, cooling is an understatement here!
The weather it is cooling - yes, Nightowl, I feel your chill - the nights have been below 50°F for a week now, but some relief is expected in a few days.
We're hoping for some relief here soon as well. It's not supposed to warm up to 50 until Saturday, and there are still over 100,000 customers without power. It's starting to get really dangerous and people are dying of hypothermia, fires from trying to heat their homes in an unsafe manner, and Carbon Monoxide from running generators improperly. Plus some people have been in homes for 5 days now, going on 6, and the houses without heat are averaging 50 degrees inside or lower. But many people are scared to leave their homes, so they won't go to a shelter, not even if the National Guard gets them there.
My brother and his wife are camping out at mom's (my parents got their power back on Saturday), and so far we still have power, but yesterday it got down to 9 degrees.... brrr! Tonight it's 10 degrees warmer, only expected down to 19. I drove my car some today and some of the roads are still icy. Let's say I did a lot of fishtailing. ;) But hey, I had to go to the doctor and I did okay, only got stuck a few times and gunned and rocked myself out. :)
We need relief and soon, either for the electric to come back on everywhere or for the temps to rise a little more.
