Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Question about MQ and compression.
We're playing around with MQ under Solaris, and I'm going to be using it to beam XML messages to various locations via the corporate WAN, but it would be nice if we could compress the data stream. XML has advantages, but it's a wee bit larger than the simple ASCII-127-delimited mainframe messages I'm used to working with.

Do MQ queues have the ability to compress data in transit, or would I need to compress the data before plopping it on the MQ queue?

Also, where could have I looked to find this info on my own? I'm fairly expereinced with Tux and various mainframe/proprietary message queueing facilities, but MQ/WebSphere is a new one for me...

I can't believe it's been over a year since I last stopped by. :-)

Is there an nntp interface for these forums yet? ;-)

New Our admin has some treats in store.
e.g. [link|http://z.iwethey.org/forums/render/content/show?contentid=258516|#258516]. An NNTP interface was on the wishlist a few years ago, but I don't know if that's as high on the list now. It was [link|http://z.iwethey.org/forums/SourceCode/TODO|last] on the list before. ;-)

I fear that he needs to be in an Intel TV commercial so that he's cloned a few times before the Holy Grail of Forum Software is done, though. :-)

Cheers,
Scott.
(Who's not complaining! And who thinks that girl in the Intel ad is a little scary.)
New Re: Our admin has some treats in store.
Even a way to treat these forums as a series of individual e-mails (like Yahoo Groups can do) would be useful. I could treat 'em as pseudo-newsgroups in Yarn, then. :-)

(Yes, I still use Yarn under OS/2 for all my nntp and smtp/pop messaging -- I'm stuck in a time warp, I s'pose, but 1996 was a fairly good year for both hardware and software).

New Do what Ben did on the old IWE boards
Make yourself a frameset with some javascript in the navigation pane. All you need is 'next' and 'previous'. All posts are sequentially numbered. Might even be able to do a greasemonkey script and do it right in the page.

Except that the post ID space may be shared across multiple boards. Is that true?

New Re: Do what Ben did on the old IWE boards
It's not that the interface here is inconvenient, it's just that I like folding as many discussions as I possibly can into my more centralized mail/newsreader setup. I'm even getting a few Fido echos back on my plate again, albeit slowly. :-)

New what little I remember
you can compress chaneels [link|http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/wmqv6/v6r0/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.mq.csqzaq.doc/csqzaq0086.htm|http://publib.boulde...oc/csqzaq0086.htm] but my last gig where we used it just byte the bullet and send it raw, appeared to be a tad faster. Had a fingerpointing war at one time and we said "right, no data manipulation at all" Personally I thought CORBA was easier to manage.
thanx,
bill
