Re: Dead mac mini
it was the old mac mini with the G4 chip I would like the new one but not now :( Why? Do you think PC hard disks don't fail?

I wouldn't bet on that, either.

Is this the 2nd or 3rd dead Mac HD report here?
ie HD failure on mini or other recent model Apple, within last few months.
Seems a lot - guessing at number of Macs VS other *nix, Beastware, amidst the half a hundred regulars who post. Looks excessive as a 'cluster', if deemed infant mortality. (Or maybe the mini is so tiny, just more handling shocks. I didn't see any elastomer shock mounting in a few pics of the guts.)

2nd.
And the other one is Scott, and he doesn't count because he kills all hardware he comes into contact with.

Indeed, my Mini is Maxtor-powered.

Heat maybe?
That small a box may lead the HD to run hotter than avg.
I lost a drive to that on my box...and am likely to lose another...though I caught the heat issue in time to deal with it.
failures were hitachi drives though, not maxtor.

None here
We have 3 macs, 2 iBooks and a MacBook Pro - none have had disk issues in the nearly 3 years we started buying them. My work laptop (HP) from my last job went through 2 disks in 2 years. Harddisks are amazing bits of engineering and technology. It's somewhat surprising that they work at all.
