Freedom is not FREE.
Yeah, but 10s of Trillions of US Dollars?

New Suppose so.
Still, for landed price paid, not a bad deal.

Its extreme overkill for me...as I likely won't ever use more than half the ports...but it was cheaper than going to best buy and buying an 8 port.

New I think I'lll give NetGear a miss for a while.
My church has a 16-port version of your failed one and it's been problematic since they bought it. Maybe it is oveheating; I hadn't thought of that.

As for other adventures - I bought a wireless print server that still has some pretty serious bugs in the firmware. It's DHCP client wouldn't stay switched off, for instance. And I have a PCI wireless card that comes with a connection utility that likes to hang Windows 2000 :-/.

What's worse is that I have a Access Point and PCMCIA card both from NetGear that are quite a bit older and work very well. I guess they must have been cutting corners on quality control since.

"Don't give up!"
New I would.
Practically every time I see NetGear equipment I have to replace it due to weird problems. At one client someone installed a new 5-port NetGear switch in one department and the whole network went unstable.

One of my larger clients tried a different consultant ("more oriented to a growing company"). When they called me back in to fix the mess I found the 3Com 24-port switch and Linksys 8-port replaced by a 48-port NetGear managed switch. Constant network problems. I put my old 3Com back in and added a second 3Com for 48 ports and all the problems went away.

New Yet I have a 16-port NG and I don't see any issues.
New Hey, some of 'em have to work some of the time :)
Of course they don't call me in to see the ones that work.

New But 3 of the last 5 NG items I've seen do have issues.
That's not a good record.
