Everything works - Darwinia, Far Cry, Half-Life 2, etc. Except Counter-Strike:Source, which crashes when I start a game (i.e. it'll start up as far as the menu system) with: [image\|http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h262/pwhysall/Screenshots/CS.png\|\|\|\|] This equates to: Details Product: Windows Operating System Event ID: 26 Source: Application Popup Version: 5.2 Symbolic Name: STATUS_LOG_HARD_ERROR Message: Application popup: %1 : %2 Explanation The program could not load a driver because the program user doesn't have sufficient privileges to access the driver or because the drive is missing or corrupt. Given that other things work, in particular other Source-engine products, I'm not terribly convinced by the above explanation. Things I've tried: Video drivers: bog standard MS ones, ATI ones, Omega drivers. All settings on, all settings off. Twiddling between performance and quality. Sound drivers: Twiddling the hardware acceleration. System: Turn hyperthreading on/off. Nothing I've tried so far has made any difference. That popup looks very reminiscent of one we're seeing at work occasionally on Win2k, but I can't say whether the locations are exactly the same. I haven't had a chance to troubleshoot it yet. I'd suspect that a "security" update from Microsoft broke a .DLL. Or perhaps something like [link\|http://z.iwethey.org/forums/render/content/show?contentid=246335\|this] is biting you.
