Most OEMs are giving away "Free OS upgrades" (downgrades IMNSHO) when machines are purchased 'tween Oct 26, 2006 and Feb 15, 2007.

The latter may be extended as the Consumer version slips ans slips and slips.

The real losers are the Memory and Hard drive manufacturers. They aren't going to get the full effect Vista requirements on initial purchases.

Plus Microsoft with its new pricing structures for the OS means people are going to have to purchases "OS upgrades" in any case to get all the features they want.
