Going to State!
Not quite sports, but since the band plays at the football games, thought I'd sneak it in here. Our son plays the bass clarinet in the [link|http://www.berknerband.com/|competition band for Berkner H.S.]. Lots of teen drama involved this year with a new band director, but all is much better now as they cleared the regional competition and qualified for State.
(...I missed out on the whole band scene in high school - debate took up all my time. Never had much appreciation for the complexity of marching bands - they have somewhere over 180 set points in their routine - with many 14 hour days in the last few months...)

Nine minutes? Pfft, that's nothin'
Try [link|http://dci.org|DCI]. That's hard.
And yes, so is HS marching band. At least the competitive style is.

In the finals!
Amy went down to San Antonio to watch the competition. Called a minute ago to say that the Berkner band made the final cut to ten bands.
Woohoo!!!

We're Number Nine!
We placed sixth out of 31 bands from across Texas in the prelims.
A new panel of judges was brought in for the finals. They had been sequestered.
Still, being in the top 10 is pretty damn good for a band with a new director.
Mighty Ram Band! Oh Yeah!
Smile, Amy

Compressed version
For those w/ a short attention span, here's an [link|http://www.angelfire.com/tx4/cus/images/ramband.gif|animated gif (2.7mb)] that captures some of the marching patterns compressed to about 10 seconds.
