Teh Church of Scientology is here! Run for the hills!
Currently hosted in the main showhall at my community college is "Psychiatry: An Industry of Death."
Scared
I *would* forget to bring my camera today. (I have an SLR, not a pocket type, so I don't bring my camera everywhere with me) Somebody else went in and got some promotional materials, of which I will provide pics tomorrow. I'll see if I can get pictures of the actual show, but somehow I think I'll get lynched.
I also want to go in there and start yelling "OPERATION CLAMBAKE!", but I really should try and keep my job...

none of your business
no different than imams, hari hrishna's, lubavitchers, moonies, ngekri buhdists, psychologists, psychiatrists or shamans. STFU and you might learn something. For a price they can teach people how to think. That has merit on its own for some people. thanx, bill

Well, maybe sort of.
Living here where they swarm I naturally come in contact with plenty of Scientologists, have done work for one of their business arms and have some as individual clients.
They tend to be rather screwed up people, but perhaps no more screwed up than before they joined Scientology. Their word processor files are predominently letters to Scientology authorities complaining about each other.
Unfortunately it is a religion lawyers find attractive so they have plenty of lawyers and tend to use them. That is the primary real danger of Scientology.

How much do you actually know about Scientology?
How much do you know about L. Ron Hubbard?
He lived a mile and a half from my grandfather's place when Mr. Hubbard was in his formative years. He had a, shall we say, less than stellar reputation, one that has continued well into the greedy sucking sound that is the CoS. If you truly believe that the CoS actually teaches you to think critically, I suggest you go sign up for some of their "personality tests".
Organized religion may be like organized crime - but the CoS is one of the most voracious, destructive cults generated in the past century. Sure, they're not going out like the Davidians, but the number of destroyed lives and drained bank accounts they've left in their wake probably significantly outweighs anything Koresh managed to do...

lets see, I lived in clearwater florida for 3 years
they suck the bank accounts of the followers dry, they present common sense ideas that an ordinary person should know any way they tell their people what to do and when to do it they demand blind obedience and are abused by their betters sounds like every other organised religion thanx, bill

Just want to nip it in the bud before it becomes entrenched.
We've got enough thieves, why encourage the creation of more?
In addition, they're one of the more virulent religions - whereas Catholicism might be a bad fever, Scientology is fucking ebola, man.
