Aluminum is good in the wonderful salt flats of Michigan. And any bodywork I might need should be covered by insurance. Which is one thing I need to check; I imagine it's not cheap for a car like that.
My SIL had a Subaru in Ithaca and in Cleveland. It rusted very badly and was basically a worthless rattle trap in a few years. She still loved it though.
until about 1991 or 1992 when they changed body construction and painting methods... this was true. Although you could basically drive the body right of the pre 1992 models, and then still keep driving them anyway.
