I thought the public was clamoring for this
and it was supposed to be an "instant success"

We are
its mostly what I listen to in the car and the program quality is first rate. Most interestingly, they've been having guests on from various republican groups that are pissed and want the neocons out of their party.
OTOH, there have to be corporate sponsors that agree with the democratic agenda enough to buy ads. I don't think they've been exactly beating down the door to buy ads.

Not enough
Ads come with ratings and demographics like flys to shinola, regardless of politics or content.
Look at stern.

I'll bet that there will great cheering
from the likes of Hannity, Limbaugh, O'Reilly, etc., who will be saying, "See? We told you that nobody wants to listen to their message."

"Chicago to my mind was the only place to be. ... I above all liked the city because it was filled with people all a-bustle, and the clatter of hooves and carriages, and with delivery wagons and drays and peddlers and the boom and clank of freight trains. And when those black clouds came sailing in from the west, pouring thunderstorms upon us so that you couldn't hear the cries or curses of humankind, I liked that best of all. Chicago could stand up to the worst God had to offer. I understood why it was built--a place for trade, of course, with railroads and ships and so on, but mostly to give all of us a magnitude of defiance that is not provided by one house on the plains. And the plains is where those storms come from." -- E.L. Doctorow

More like nobody with a brain wants to listen to nutcases.
Which would explain why Air America got such low ratings - there aren't many brains left in the United States these days...

Are you saying that Air America listeners are nutcases?
It's not offered here so I have never listened to it.

They're on XM and they have podcasts.
Their free podcasts are available [link|http://www.airamerica.com/premium/podcasts.php?type=free|here].
Cheers, Scott. (Who briefly listened to Franken's show on XM, but has only briefly used XM period.)

Other way around.
People with no brains don't like listening to intelligent rational talk. Thus, people prefer Limbaugh, et al. over intelligent rational talk. There is a serious lack of people with brains in this country - witness King George II.
And I have now thoroughly murdered the joke.
