Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Backpeddling.
"this jerk" was quite obvious. You WERE referring to Bill's characterization of the hero/victim/protester/prankster in the other thread. You are normally too clear to have made that kind of error; it quite clearly WAS a swipe at Bill's opinion of the guy.

As for creepy, well - Bill and I may have our differences, we may argue from time to time - but the dis-ingenuity of your claim 'all disingenuousness aside (at my mark...now), the post was not conceived or composed as a "swipe at Bill,"' is almost neocon-like in it's opposition to 'truthiness'.

Sorry, bub - not buying it. Just own up.

New The idiom is actually "beckpedaling"
...so there is nothing here to buy or sell. And I am moderately offended at your post, which appears to suggest that in making an explicit statement of what my motives were and were not, I lied. The word "jerk" was thrown around rather liberally in the late TSA pissing contest, and not by Beep alone. In employing it on behalf of the Robert Johnsons of the traveling public I consciously echoed that earlier thread, and unless unbeknownst to me Beep now holds exclusive rights to the word (maybe he does—I understand that the Patent Office has been known to grant some pretty broad and outlandish applications these latter years) it was reasonable for me to do so with the expectation that the issues and not the personalia were being evoked.

I assure you that I have not been so shattered by bepatient's devastating ripostes as to have recourse to misrepresenting my intentions. When I wish to be personally disagreeable you will never find me disavowing that stance, and I rather resent your contrary imputation.

New If so, your post was atypical in the way it was worded.
In that you usually seem to be able to communicate quite well by implication AND by flat out statement. If you are sincere about what I took to be backpedaling, if you indeed aren't backpedaling, but never meant any reference to the previous contentious thread, I stand amazed.

I took it that way, Beep took it that way, Scott took it that way, I assure YOU it certainly appeared that way.

And - since you weren't making reference to the famous 'jerk' opinion, tell me, why the emphasis on 'this' in 'this' jerk? It sure seemed you were using it to differentiate 'Bob Johnson' from the 'jerk' reference in the previous thread (the one that Bill used in so many posts)? If your post had nothing to do with the 'jerk' reference in the last thread, there would be little need to add the emphasis at all. I'm curious. That phrase is what caused this little misunderstanding, after all.

New {chortle} This dissection leaves me of two 'minds'
1) {cue .wav)
What we have here is a failure t'communicate..

2) {cue Ashley Brilliant postcard}
In the final analysis, everything depends on everything else.

3) {did I underestimate? very well then - I underestimated}
It is one thing to impute 'what was intended -???-' to 'any old piece of prose'; quite another to 'KNOW that what you meant was ___'.

But analyzing phrase tecphonics down unto Aleph-null, internal neuronal tics [and with such Certainty - - that which I thought was sole province of the commercial religions?]
causes me to wonder:

Shall we next presume that any ref to, the guaranteed-ongoing pabulum from the TSA lego engineering department | use of the word jerk: shall forever [Ref] THIS thread?
or perhaps 'those other threads'?

Is the IGM now to be afflicted with a M\ufffdbius tapeloop?
TSA is bound to recur as, experience demonstrates: they never Learn. Just flounder for appearance. Psych-safety. (We Love it - that rilly-Safe dream)

(IIRC Most-all those posts were also about) I KNOW that the motives of Passenger X:
{were shallow} {were heroic} {were to gain 15 Minutes of Fame} {were to yada cha cha} {were the clear actions of a jerk}

== because "I read. it-all. in the Newspaper".

{yawn}

Yours for the fragility of intramural 'communications'

Damn little communication."
