New Last IBM Convenience Package. Effect on eCS?
Hi All,

[link|http://www-4.ibm.com/software/os/warp/swchoice/|Here's] news on IBM's Software Choice page saying they've delivered their last Convenience Package for software subscription customers. I take it to mean that there will be no more update packages for OS/2 from IBM.

Is that too pessimistic?

How does this affect eCS, if at all?

Thanks.

Cheers,
Scott.

For IBM's current plans for the coming year for OS/2 support see my Warpstock 2001 report - Whither OS/2? - [link|http://www.os2voice.org/VNL/past_issues/VNL1101H/vnewsf1.htm|http://www.os2voice.../vnewsf1.htm]

Basically after Dec 31, 2002, IBM will not release any more fixpacks or CPs for OS/2 unless you have a support contract. And IBM doesn't consider SWC a support contract. SWC will just be a mechanism for delivering updated drivers, updates to the IBM browser and possibly things like TCP/IP and Java.

Serenity has an IBM support contract so they will have access to any additional fixes beyond 2002.
