Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Whee, the continuing front yard saga
1) Brand new septic system, 2 months ago: $11,000

2) Three tree removals (emerald ash borer and old age), 2 weeks ago: $2000

3) New sprinkler system (to water the new yard properly), Friday: $2200

4) Being told that the gurgling in the drains and the leaking toilet that started anew on Saturday is a bad main drain to the house: priceless.

So now the sod people have been told to wait yet again*, and part of the sprinkler system and the sidewalk has to be torn up to make room for the new house drain. They ran a camera and showed my wife the pictures of the pretty stalagmites and stalactites of accumulated yuck that had formed. The quote from the plumbers is $1500 (minimum), and the septic guys are coming out tomorrow to quote it as well. This is in addition to the $325 to clear the blockage and use the camera to find this out (well worth it to prove it wasn't the brand new septic system, however).

So I just *might* get my yard back from the Moon by the end of the week. Maybe.**

* Back when we went on vacation, the sod people were supposed to contact me to set up a date to do the final grade on the yard. Well, they were a few days late contacting me, and by the time they called we were in Chicago on vacation. Unbeknownst to me they decided to go ahead with the grade regardless, even though I had told them that they would have to hold off because of the aforementioned tree and sprinkler jobs that were pending. We came back to at least half a dozen messages trying to get us to agree to a sodding date.

Now that the tree and sprinkler offenses have been ravaged upon the yard, the final grade has, of course, been completely ruined, and I am currently arguing with them as to whom is going to pay for the regrading. I just sweetened the pot with the repair of the tree holes in the backyard, so we'll see how that goes. Bob the Sod Person is coming out tomorrow to take a look. Perhaps if I'm lucky he'll bring Donald Sutherland with him too.

** Yes, these problems are miniscule compared to those of others. I still get my chance to vent, though. ;-)

New But finally it will be all done . . .
. . and the city will come by and say, "Umm . . we need to put a utility vault and a pipeline under your front yard".

New note to self. if you atr going to replace the septic system
replace the main drain at the same time. Buy a shitload of gravel because raking once a year is better than landscaping every weekend. Or teach the kids to shit at the neighbors house.
thanx,

New Bummer. I hope it's all resolved soon.
New Ah, the joys of home ownership!

New "agree to a sodding date" :-)
Was that funny on purpose? I was amused, anyway. :)

(Or maybe 'sodding' isn't a common substitute-swear-word in the US.)

Best of luck with your yard, sodding or otherwise.
Two out of three people wonder where the other one is.
New Yes, it sodding was on purpose.
As was the "sod people" part. I'm trying to keep amused about all of this...

New There are people worse off than you.
At least that's what a relative of mine would say in those circumstances. Sod or not.

Wade.

New Absolutely, and I said as much. :-)
I'm posting this here more for amusement than anything.

New Since it's still IWT Remembrance Month...
and since kindly admin has shouldered ("Take up our quarrel with the foe: / To you from failing hands we throw / The torch; be yours to hold it high...") the burden of serving up our IWT fix, I urge ye (with the intolerable smugness of the virtuous) who can afford it to help defray these expenses that he may better provide the clover between his young son's feet (after all, by the accounts I've read the little sucker's destined to rule the world someday, and a minor expenditure now might serve to put you on his good side by 2030. Just sayin'...).

cordially,
Die Welt ist alles, was der Fall ist.
New Hear, hear! Very well said. :-)
New I'd mail some grass, but all of ours is dead :-D

Amy
