New Iran turns away nuclear site inspectors
[link|http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/meast/08/21/iran.inspectors.ap/index.html|CNN]
Iran has turned away U.N. inspectors wanting to examine its underground nuclear site in an apparent violation of the Nonproliferation Treaty, diplomats and U.N. officials said Monday.

The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the confidentiality of the information, told The Associated Press that Iran's unprecedented refusal to allow access to the facility at Natanz could seriously hamper international efforts to ensure that Tehran is not trying to make nuclear weapons.

Nothing like a game of brinkmanship.

New You're not surprised, are you?
It has cost Iran nothing thus far with respect to its relations with the wider world. Why would they change what they've been doing?

Since the UNSC can't even get its act together for a force for Lebanon, Iran's government probably sees no possibility of serious consequences in continuing it's present course. One can't blame them for apparently having that view.

I fear that we (the West) are merely delaying a confrontation until the conseqences will be even more dire.

:-(

Cheers,
Scott.
