From religion as an empty set of motions, a way to gather material resources, or serving as an enforcement branch of the government, they practice the same set of corrupt practices we have over here.

It just happens that like most religion, they are spread by their most devout and faithful followers. Thus we tend to end up with an idealized view of their religion and they have an idealized view of our religion.
