Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton called Thursday for the resignation of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, hours after excoriating him at a public hearing over what she said was a "failed policy" in Iraq.
"I just don't understand why we can't get new leadership that would give us a fighting chance to turn the situation around before it's too late," the New York Democrat told the Associated Press. "I think the president should choose to accept Secretary Rumsfeld's resignation."
Prety aggressive move, looks like Hillary is going on the warpath. From a political perspective, I figure Hillary looks at it as a no-lose situation. The people that are going to be upset by this where not going to vote for her anyway. The moderates will not much care unless Hillary wins, and in that case they will slighly impressed by her drive. And the left will support her more strongly because of this no matter how it turns out.
From a practical perspective, Rumsfeld should have been removed long ago. It is far too late to actually make a difference. The Bush administration policy is already set and they are playing out their last gambits now, nobody could really change things at this point.
