New Iranian President: Solution to Middle East crisis is ...
to destroy Israel.

[link|http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/746081.html|Iranian President: Solution to Middle East crisis is to destroy Israel]

By The Associated Press

PUTRAJAYA, Malaysia - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Thursday the solution to the Middle East crisis was to destroy Israel, Iranian state media reported.

In a speech during an emergency meeting of Muslim leaders in Malaysia, Ahmadinejad also called for an immediate cease-fire to end the fighting between Israel and the Iranian-back group Hezbollah. "Although the main solution is for the elimination of the Zionist regime, at this stage an immediate cease-fire must be implemented," Ahmadinejad said, according to state-run television in a report posted on its Web site.

In other words a cease fire is to serve their interests, the destruction of Israel. Why would Israel agree at this point to a cease fire which will enable Hezbollah to regroup and rearm?

So far this story has not been picked up by the major Western news organizations (BBC, CNN, NY Times, etc.) I wonder why? What do you think the reaction from the world would be if the leader of a country called for the destruction of Iran?

Here is what Tony Blair had to say about the situation [link|http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1154525799467&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull|Blair: Ahmadinejad's remark on Israel 'astounding']:

In a press conference early Thursday afternoon, UK Prime Minister Tony Blair said that he finds it astounding that President Ahmadinejad has called for Israel to be "wiped off the map" as a solution to the Middle East's problems.

"If someone else were to call for Iran or Syria to be wiped off the map, people would be tearing the house down!" he added.

You would think the BBC would report what the British Prime Minister said.

New Umm ...
"Although the main solution is for the elimination of the Zionist regime, at this stage an immediate cease-fire must be implemented" is not the same as "Solution to Middle East crisis is to destroy Israel". He may believe it, and may have said it in the past. But this quote is directed at the current ruling regime.

New What do you think the word elimination means?
Although the main solution is for the elimination of the Zionist regime
New Tony Blair disagrees with you

Unless of course you think "wiped off the map" means something else.

New I'll answer both here
Although the main solution is for the elimination of the Zionist regime
Let's try it like this:
Although the main solution is for the elimination of the Zionist regime
See my point? "Regime" does not equal "nation".

And yes, Tony Blair did use the phrase "wiped off the map". And like I said above, I didn't see that phrase in the quote from Ahmadinejad. So Blair is (or at lease seems to be) arguing against something that wasn't said.

Hmm, I recognize that tactic.

New You are worse then Clinton
This is not the first time he has made such a statement. I guess all these are wrong as well.

Iran's new president has repeated a remark from a former ayatollah that Israel should be "wiped out from the map," insisting that a new series of attacks will destroy the Jewish state, and lashing out at Muslim countries and leaders that acknowledge Israel.

But Israel and the US have to worry even more about an Iranian president who denies the Holocaust and asserts that "Israel must be wiped off the map."

Keep living in a dream world. Yours is the same kind of attitude that dismissed Hitler in 1933 as a nutcase who would never do what he said.
New There you go again.
all back to ww2

Too much of today's music is fashionable crap dressed as artistry.Adrian Belew
New Forget about WWII
Do you think Tony Blair and everyone else are making these things up?
New Not at all
I think you are reaching to make comparisons that are invalid.
Too much of today's music is fashionable crap dressed as artistry.Adrian Belew
New You don't believe him?
He clearly wants to destroy Israel, why don't you believe that he will try to do it if he has the means? What does he have to lose?
New He hasn't invaded poland yet.
and your assertions don't require this to be taken any more seriously.
Too much of today's music is fashionable crap dressed as artistry.Adrian Belew
New And Hitler could have been stopped ...
before he invaded Poland if people had taken him seriously. Israel can't take the chance that the equivalent to the invasion of Poland will be a mushroom cloud over Tel Aviv.
New Right
And if Israel were to take seriously and act against any MidEast leader who has said this, they would have to eliminate EVERY OTHER MIDEAST COUNTRY.

You are >reaching<...and its not helping your case.
Too much of today's music is fashionable crap dressed as artistry.Adrian Belew
New The Iranian threat is more serious ...
for a number of reasons:

1. It is a religious based threat which is almost impossible to deter
2. Iran is actively working towards a nuclear bomb
New They have all been religious threats
and you have nukes...what does that make you to them?
Too much of today's music is fashionable crap dressed as artistry.Adrian Belew
New No
Nasser was not a religious threat, Arafat was not a religious threat Assad was not religious and neither was Saddam.
New So now you are denying that the basis
of their belief and their threat to Israel was NOT religious in nature.

You must be smoking something.

New I am saying something very simple
The previous Arab threats were based on Arab nationalism not Islam. None of the people I mentioned were particluarly religious or used religious based themes. Egypt, Syria, Iraq, etc. were/are all secular regimes. they did not propose to insititue sharia law. They stressed Arab nationalism. Iran, Hezbollah, and Hamas are fighting a holy war which is a very different proposition.
New Not quite
[link|http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article12790.htm|Information Clearing Hosue]
What Ahmadinejad said is arguably better translated as "remove from the pages of history" but more importantly, if you read the entire paragraph it is clear that he is talking about the current government not the entire population.

Would Ahmadinejad be happy if he could remove the entire jewish population and destroy the country of Israel? Wouldn't surprise me.

But so far what he has said publicly is only slightly harsher then what the US says about Cuba and what was said about Iraq before the invasion, or what Israel says about Hamas.

New fun with words
"Wiped off the map" does mean something else in this instance, you idiot. The idiom doesn't exist in Persian. Incidentally, I notice that it's a "fence" that you folks are building to keep out the pesky Palestinians (and we'uns, for that matter, contemplating for our own borders) and not a "wall." Ain't propaganda fun?
