A 60 GB IBM IDE drive on a computer at work died over the weekend. I got a [link|http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822148139|320 GB Seagate replacement] and have been installing and restoring things.
Since the CD of Win2K I have only has SP-2, it doesn't have the 48BitBigLBA fix, and can only see 131062 MB on the disk. That's fine, since I know that [link|http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/bootitng.html|BootIt-NG] can stretch the partition when I'm done.
So I did the OS install, installed SP-4, installed 39 Updates from Windows Update, rebooted about eleventy-six times, and restored various programs, then used BootIt-NG to stretch the partition to 305243 MB. No errors. So I rebooted and ...
Blue Screen. Inaccessible Boot Device.
:-(
I tried a few things, but nothing worked. I thought, maybe it's the 48BitBigLBA flag - maybe that's not enabled by default. So I shrunk the partition back to 131062 MB and rebooted, and it came up fine.
Whew!
I ran the utility [link|http://www.48bitlba.com/enablebiglbatool.htm|EnableBigLBA] and it said the 48-bit LBA was not enabled. Enabling it worked. Stretching the partition was uneventful, and Win2k is happy again.
Hope this helps someone out there.
Cheers,
Scott.
