thanx,
bill
Our bureaucracy and our laws have turned the world into a clean, safe work camp. We are raising a nation of slaves.
Chuck Palahniuk
New PETA marginalizes themselves more every day, IMO.
[link|http://www.EatTheWhales.com/|EatTheWhales.com] is a PETA site which attempts to explain their reasoning. Beware, in typical PETA fashion there's lots of gruesome pictures of butchering...

Are We Serious? You Bet!
Many people are quick to condemn the Japanese, Norwegians, Makah, and other whale-killers, while ignoring the greater suffering contained in buckets of chicken wings or fish sticks that they "harvest" at the drive-thru and haul home from the meat counter. It's not that the whale-eating nations are blameless, given that all over the world, a vegan diet is easy, fast, nutritious, tasty, cheap, convenient, environmentally friendly, health-promoting, and kind. But, whale-eating is definitely one of the least cruel of all distasteful flesh-eating habits.

This ranks up there with their "Got Beer?" campaign to get college kids to drink more beer because it's better for them than milk.

PETA lost my sympathy when they went (in my mind anyway) from arguing that animals should be treated with care to (practically) arguing that all animals are equal to humans....

Cheers,
Scott.
New Equal? You haven't been paying attention
Animals are better than humans. (Except that humans are animals. [And excpet that many animals eat other animals. {And excpet for the fact that humans are the only animal that has been proven to occaisionally forgo it's own health and comfort for the sake of another animal of a different species.}])
This is my sig. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
New Four legs good, two legs bad!
Baaaaaaaa.

New Wish I could find this old email piece
It ranked all the NFL teams from best to worst on the basdis of their names. Dolphins were first, I believe, and Packers were last. Had explanations for everything. Very funny. Now if only I could find it. (It's probably somewhere in the Mbs of stuff I haven't gotten around to deleting.)

New Not enough, IMO.
Of course, I actually *agree* with them, some.

while ignoring the greater suffering contained in buckets of chicken wings or fish sticks that they "harvest" at the drive-thru and haul home from the meat counter.

Many people do. Many people have no problem lamblasting me for hunting, while chomping down on a burger.

I wouldn't *beware* people from those pictures, I'd encourage them to look at the pictures.

A large problem with our culture has been the "plausible deniablity" that we've insulated ourselves with. Meat comes in styrofoam and plastic. Vegetables are bug-free, and as PETA implies don't cause harm to animals. [1]

"Its not my fault, I'm just the consumer".

Having said that, PETA is rather famous for having their head stuck places and ignoring the facts/science, in favor of "what they feel". Rather forgetting that the world isn't a *very nice place* without all our technology (and sometimes with it).

[1] The current vegetable farms spray tons of fertilizer, pesticides, and asst. chemicals into the local environment, distorting the local environment, as well as plowing under the environment in favor of the food in question. Habitat for some animals is drastically decreased, others thrive on the new ecology, changing the whole working of the local environment. Harvesting, plowing, mowing, etc, of the fields causes the deaths of a LOT of animals (hundreds of rabbit carcasses in a few-hundred acre field isn't unusual during harvest) [2]

[2] Nope, nothing's simple.
