Holy cran
110. 'Seasons in the Sun'
Terry Jacks (1974) Originally intended for the Beach Boys, Terry Jacks' maudlin adaptation of Jacques Brel's 'Le Moribund' ('The Dying Man') was impossibly cloying and irony free. Ironically, it was also one of Kurt Cobain's favorite songs. The what? Lemme see those lyrics ... [link|http://www.lyricsondemand.com/onehitwonders/seasonsinthesunlyrics.html|Gaah!]

I remember that one from my parents' radio station
From memory:
"We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun"
and
"Goodbye my friend it's hard to die... when the birds are singing in the sky."
*puke*
Working there has scarred me for life.

I actually have that one on a '45 record
And the flip side is "Put The Bone In", which is even weirder! It's about a woman trying to feed her dog, and the cupboard is bare, apparently.

Can you find the lyrics for that?
I can't, but I found this along the way: [link|http://featuresblogs.chicagotribune.com/entertainment_popmachine/2006/05/the_joys_of_dep.html|The joy and fun of depressing music]

Some.
Turn your speakers down before clicking - there's a short "Everybody Dance Now" audio clip.
[link|http://technology.niagarac.on.ca/staff/mcsele/music.htm|Scroll down to B-Sides]. There's even an audio clip of the song (on the right).

Still looking, but found this:
MTV NEWS: Kurt, you sang "Seasons in the Sun?"
KURT: Did I sing? Yes, I did. I don't know the words. One of the only singles I can remember from my childhood that I used to cry to.
KRIST: What's the best lyric in there?
KURT: It's such an emotional song.
KRIST: There's like the best lyric...
KURT: (sings) Good-bye papa it's hard to die.
KRIST: The stars on the beach were... I forget how it goes
KURT: (sings) The stars on the beach...no, the starfish on the beach where the star's out of reach.
KRIST: Wow.
DAVE: What do you mean?
PAT: The wow really made it...
KRIST: Don't you get it?
KURT: I don't know. I don't know... All I know I know is there's a better song on the B-side of that single. "Put the Bone In It."
DAVE: Put the bone in it... (laughs) It's about a guy's dog gets hit by a car and they ask him to put the bone in the grave with the dog.
EDIT: I was mistaken though, she doesn't want to feed the dog, she wants to bury him with his bone cause he's dead. It's been years since I listened to the '45.

And this:
From a site:
[link|http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1276195/posts|http://www.freerepub...hat/1276195/posts]
I had the 45 single of Seasons In The Sun by Terry Jacks when I was a kid. On the flip-side was a song titled 'Put The Bone In'. Its lyrics started out like this...
"Put the bone in, she asked him at the store 'cause my doggie got run over by a car"
EDIT: Found some more of the lyrics... maybe I'll track it down piece by piece?

Here's a drunken parody of it...
Complete with guitar chords. ;) I may have to actually LISTEN to the '45 to get the ACTUAL lyrics.
[link|http://www.guitaretab.com/s/soul-asylum/17895.html|http://www.guitareta...asylum/17895.html]
EXCERPT BELOW:
This is from the bonus track in the Soul Asylum re-release of Hang Time. I don't know of anyone wants it, but I've taken so much I felt I needed to give something back.
Put The Bone In by T. Jacks As performed by (a quite drunk) Soul Asylum (It's just that kind of song :) ) transcribed by Ira Bryant
(chorus)
F G C F C Put the bone in, she yelled at the store F G C F C 'Cause my doggies been hit by a car F G C C/B C/A And I do wanna bring him home something F G C F C Put the bone in, she yelled out once more
C F C F C Because the meat from the pork is so sweet F G C F C And the bone from the pork meat to be F G Put the bone in, she begged him C C/B C/A as she paced across the floor F G C F C Put the bone in, she yelled out once more
They repeat the chorus around four times. Unless your drunk, I don't suggest this.
There you go.

The real lyrics to "Put The Bone In"
I had planned to listen to my '45 on the 19th and post this, but the storm changed my plans. So here it is now, finally. :) ************************* Put The Bone In by Terry Jacks
Put the bone in she asked him at the store Cause my doggie\ufffds been hit by a car And I do want to bring him home something Put the bone in she begged him once more
The meat from the pork is sweet Give the bone from the pork meat to me Put the bone in she begged him As she paced around the floor Put the bone in she yelled out once more
Put the bone in she asked him at the store Cause my doggie\ufffds been hit by a car And I do want to bring him home something Put the bone in she begged him once more ********************************
Now my question is, is the dog actually dead, or just wounded and dying and she wants to give him a bone before he goes? ;)

Re: I could always post some lyrics...well...maybe not
I had intended on Weds the 19th, to listen to my '45 of Put The Bone In and then post the lyrics on this site.
The storm that rolled through St. Louis that evening had other plans for us. We lost our power at 6:30 p.m. that evening. We just now got it back yesterday at 6:00 p.m.
I posted some about this in the Water Cooler, and am looking for a good story to link to the News Forum.
Anyway, I STILL intend to post all the lyrics, when I have time between resetting clocks, changing back up batteries, doing laundry, etc. etc.

Great Hastur.. am so Relieved -
Who KNEW ..it was This Awful ??
Sometimes ignorance IS bliss. I treasure this particular set. If we ever lose control of how the nearby dials get set...
Whatever the current state of my neurons - I must attribute a portion of the cause (for any remaining ones that pass POST): to a lifelong aversion to >ALL. THIS.< and anything else that prompted the beginnings of the gag reflex. Was exposed to Not More than a couple vacuous triads of {almost} Any of this detritus. Except this nonMagnificent Seven - - - make that Five -
77. Scarborough Fair. OK, a vapid exercise in simply, harmonizing voices / no content: but isn't that last almost contract-Compulsory for Pop? Why pick on plotlessness.. Human voices singing in-tune, on the well-tempered scale -- even with no message: will ever score Waay above agitated random-violence-as-'music' and tape-loop-backwards 'lectronic drum sounds; thankyouverymuch.
66. Crying.. chapel (I can't even Write that title)
Only caught my inner ear with that toxin Once. At somebody's house, so I couldn't cut the AC cord. Well, not immediately.
42. 'When I'm 64'
Demur; 180\ufffd to this smarmy cluless critic. You'd have to be a pretty unimaginitive fucking tightass to miss all the pianissimo satiric winks at the id's fantasies, spelled out only on the {Duhh} surface. (And this was created well before the attention span was nearly universally decimated by 24/7 direct-feeds of machine-generated rewrites of The One Undead-melody.)
It was fun! especially back where people really Did sing, coming out of a movie like Yellow Submarine. Kewl do0Dz wouldn't Dare Try *that* (even if they could.) And singing! in a Red State, without a nearby cross - - - bring out Bull Connor and the dogs.
33. That inane Titanic thing.. Oh.. Yeah....
So then, all those curious about the brouhaha around this blockbuster wallow - Had to endure this one, at least once. Some neurons were injured - I could Feel their Pain.
22. 'You Light Up My Life'
What can anyone say? the Red State Anthem. Change a few words and the key: 'nother new $maker. 'Treacle' -- excellent word choice by this reviewer.
18. 'I Believe I Can Fly' Can one sue for continuing consciousness-harrassment? Yet..?
15. 'Cry'
270\ufffd outta phase. Heh.. I thought that one was interesting - kinda like road-kill can sometimes create strange textures? A Rorschach (but I didn't know that word, then) for pure-distilled maudlin-hysteria. Thus, like Plan 9 from Outer Space: a keeper (for when try'na explain the species, should Intelligent Life ever arrive on the ship?)
{Shudder} - why if I'd listened-on-through! every. One. of. these. I mighta become an MCSEIEIO, serial killer or a Repo. Probably all 3.
Thanks! Cthulhu!! for your tutelage in honing my sensitivities.. at least 95% of the time.

re: Decimated attention span
I just saw a quote from Jerry Seinfeld the other day: There is no such thing as an attention span. There is only the quality of what you are viewing. This whole idea of an attention span is, I think, a misnomer. People have infinite attention if you are entertaining them.

Think that's just one aspect -
When long out of practise, the hippocampus tends to have a leaky buffer - never transfers the details / or often, even the gist/overview to er, harder storge. {roughly.. speaking}
Will agree that, Interest is ever The key to bringing one's full Attention to any event (visual or just audio, or even - touching things in the dark. ;-) But I think one's capacity can become lowered.. by a steady diet of all those 10-sec-span trivialities, now a daily flood -- especially for those with diverse devices. (Could the factor be N! for this effect? Can I get another Honorary Degree for that?)
Hey! it's Rupert Murdoch on Charlie Rose tonight, for the hour...
