It seems much sturdier than the old one, better fan, it fits, it works. But ...
I think my video card is hosed, too. Symptoms the first time: video stopped playing properly, every time I tried it would hang the system forcing a power-down to fix it. Thinking I had broken something with a recent upgrade, I started playing with X settings, eventually going so far as replacing xserver-xfree86 with xserver-xorg. Nothing helped. I booted to XP (it's a dual-boot) and tried again. Video hung the machine again. That's about when I realized it wasn't my X settings.
Eventually it wouldn't even do a POST. I tried swapping out the video card with the one from the old box and still nothing. Okay, so it's the power supply, I think. Video card goes back into the old box.
New PS comes in, it boots. Yay! Oh, but now my X install is hosed. Okay, boot XP. Comes up good. Hmm, video hangs the box again. Power down quick before I let out any more magic smoke. Swap in the old video card. Boot XP. Video works.
So now it looks like either the video card took down the power supply, or the power supply took down the video card. Time to hit NewEgg again. So for a non-gamer, what should I be looking at?
