Was in the 100's here over the weekend
Cooling off to 95 today.
Swamp cooler works well in this semi-arid area - was 104 outside yesterday afternoon and a comfortable 76 in the house.

Was forced to work in said heat on Saturday all day
My boss is a sick man.
I would have loved to have been lounging in the sweet refrigerated air of home.
Call me a half-poof.
Meanwhile, hope you survive the heatwave. Sounds like time to hit the pool :)

hang it out the window, it will shrivel
really noticed in San Antonio, it was 97 and none of us were sweating much. Just a slight salt stain here and there. In atlanta just stand outside nekkid with a bar of soap, after 1 minute soap wait three minutes go in and dry off. thanx, bill

At least you're far enough north
that your area can have houses with basements. That way you have a refuge that stays naturally comfortable. Plus, it's a place to run to when the tornados come bearing down on you.

"Chicago to my mind was the only place to be. ... I above all liked the city because it was filled with people all a-bustle, and the clatter of hooves and carriages, and with delivery wagons and drays and peddlers and the boom and clank of freight trains. And when those black clouds came sailing in from the west, pouring thunderstorms upon us so that you couldn't hear the cries or curses of humankind, I liked that best of all. Chicago could stand up to the worst God had to offer. I understood why it was built--a place for trade, of course, with railroads and ships and so on, but mostly to give all of us a magnitude of defiance that is not provided by one house on the plains. And the plains is where those storms come from." -- E.L. Doctorow

It's plunging down to 97 here today
That's valley temperature, a little cooler here in the hills - but we have high humidity (well, high for here - negligeable for Port Arthur). Record California temperature last week was 122 in Indio - a historic high.

Yes it is, though a very sparsley populated area.
Probably the papers didn't mention it because 126 is not a record there. Indio is an actual community (mostly a center of date growing and arts and food festivals).

Record highs last week
We've got the AC going almost constantly (or until my wife feels too chilly).
Speaking of the grid, we had a partial outage on Saturday afternoon. All the major appliances went out, but some things were still working (master bedroom, DSL modem/Airport AP, Cordless phone, etc.) On the other hand, the elevator was out and that's the only way you can get to the underground garage so no car available.
So it was quiet and dark but we still had Internet and phone service. Betsy and I watched some videos on my Powerbook and I played some music on iTunes.
All in all, not the worst time we've had but it took several hours to get things back up.

Coldest winter in Sydney for years.
Today's forecast max is 15C. Good time of the year for our server room to not have enough air-con, I guess (temp at the ceiling in there is 28C as I type).
