What the response to Bob's column says does look like a grotesque exaggeration of what's in the article I linked to:

Then, providing you give them on demand, super gulp drinks, pizza and Mc Dee ready meals, and allocate space for sleeping bags then MAGIC happens. Steve Jobs from Apple built his empire on working practices like this.
In that article, he's saying to do that on small, unimportant projects. The post on IW seems to be saying do that always. I could see one of those young developers leaving in disgust and posting something like that.
