Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Anybody dabble in electronics?
Need: mm:ss count up timer, when preset time is reached, green LED displays, when 2nd preset time is reached yellow LED is displayed (green goes off), and when third preset time is reached red LED is displayed (yellow goes off).

Green time can range from 1 minute to 25 minutes in 1 minute increments.
Yellow time can range for 30 seconds to 10 minutes after Green
Red time can range from 30 seconds to 10 minutes after Yellow.

I could cobble together some 555 timers and use rotary switches to set delays. Don't know how to work in a count up timer.

Open to any suggestions. (Currently someone sits with a stopwatch and manually turn lights on and off.) I have googled and cannot find what I'm looking for, either assembled or in kit form.

Thanks.

Joe

New You are looking for a "speaker timer"
Speaker as in someone talking. Or a Timing Prompter or a Seconding Prompter.

Prices vary, but some of these are spot on what you want.

New Sounds like you want a "debate timer".
Will [link|http://z.iwethey.org/forums/render/content/show?contentid=259830|this] work? It showed up at the top of a Froogle search for "debate timer". It's the only good match I see. The manufacturer's site is [link|http://www.learningresources.com/Product.pasp?txtCatalog=Toys&txtCategory=&txtProductID=6900|here]. The lowest price I found for it is [link|http://www.officeworld.com/Worlds-Biggest-Selection/LRNLER2901/06Q3/|$9.39]. :-)

I'm sure there are build-it-yourself variations, but the time might be worth more than $10. Fig 8 in the examples [link|http://www.uoguelph.ca/~antoon/gadgets/555/555.html|here] shows a 10 minute timer that you could probably modify (e.g. have 3 each 555 circuits).

HTH! Luck!

Cheers,
Scott.
New HA... by 27 seconds!

New Rassin' frashin' stupid slow fingers!
New Enter better query string, get better answers.
This is for timing speech competition. Speaker has target time i.e. 5-7 minutes. No lights until speaker has reached minimum (5 min). Red indicates maximum time reached. Yellow is normally 1 minute before max, but can be set based on speaker's request. On longer speeches the time range may be 20-30 minutes. Green at 20, red at 30 and yellow where ever speaker requests.

thanks for the assistance

Oh, and it has to be cheeeeeeep. I like the professional ones, but the speeches I'll be timing, cost is MAJOR concern.

New I'd go for the $9.39 one.

I was pretty stoked the day I learned how to properly pronounce "Worcestershire," because I don't have a lot going for me.
