Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Greg, you're not the only bad driver on the board.
a very rich person should leave his kids enough to do anything but not enough to do nothing. -- Warren Buffett
New Whoever said I was bad...
The word is "Aggressive"

I also am a firm believer in using things, typically to the full extent that can be.

Including: Traction Control (sometimes disabled), Anti-Lock Brakes, Hand Brake Levers, corners of tires, struts, steering mechanisms, Shifters, Accelerator pedals.

One thing I really like to test is the Speed-O-Meter, or modernly know as the speedometer. Also known as: The "Holy SH*T you are going how fast?" meter, The blue or red shift gauge, The "Officer, I just got new tires and it is off by a lot" guage,... the list could go on.

New When I am following or being followed, I get distracted.
Because I have to be courteous.

New Overly Courteous.
On the way back, I didn't jam up, I didn't cut-off. I only pressed a bit to help the people understand I wanted to get by.

During construction zones, I didn't do any of that even. I use my turn sign, signalling lane changes, wait about 2 seconds and continue to the next lane on multiple lane changes. I follow, watch ahead 1500+ feet. I know where the vehicles and obstacles are 100% of the time. (except when being overly corteous for the followers)

If I'll be the bottle neck, I speed up and let those that ARE travelling faster than me not kick off the cruise and get over... (mainly so I can "coon dog" them).

I time my passes to typically not make others have to change they way the are driving. If I am over taking someone they are in the right lane, and they are over taking a "truck or something" I'll either speed up to over take them sooner than they need to get over for thier take-over. Or I slow down and let them over. Typically.

I drive fast. I am a bit aggressive, I talk it up a lot. Get over your "I am a better driver because I drive a BMW" attitude. Equipment only takes it so far.

Your assertion that I think I am a better driver because I favour a particular marque requires explanation.

So explain or retract.

New Why.. ya took the words right outta my fingertips -
Alas, while that is a Norton featherbed\ufffd frame, indeed - it contains a twin, looking very like the 650cc Manxman version (?) - the only Norton I bought new. That 650 was a vibrating pig, whereas its predecessor, the 600 Dominator (in featherbed-like frame: which the Manxman did Not feature) was much smoother. (I sent the engine back to Bracebridge Street via Cherry Hill NJ. Months later - not a (t)whit's difference. They coulda saved all that wasted effort / their cost, with a simple snippet of Truthiness: Sorry, it really Is a vibrating pig..

Anyway - it seems to be someone's fairly sanitary special. But sans the DOHC singles which were the only Official "Norton Manx" models - of 350cc (Model 40M) or 500cc (30M) displacement. All pukka Manxes had mag. alloy drum brakes, etc.

Alas, [link|http://www.vintagenet.com/phantom/manxman.html| this] interesting mount of a 650 engine in Dominator frame appears to be missing its pic. Pity. (But I don't think that would cure the rocking-couple in that vibrator..) Hmmm - lots of dead links :-/

Oh, the question was?

Dunno about the brawl, but Greg's MO sounds sane enough por moi, expressed with that concision we expect from engineering types. Personally, I much prefer never.. being In A Hurry; going fast for awhile, just because - then dropping below the radar at just over the limit, for cruise (have yet to top out my ride at sea level; it's on the list.)

And at the $5/ level, soon - I expect I'll be seeing little of that dance.
Besides, any I-State cruising is rilly bad for neurons, no matter how palatial inside the coccoon. Brain the size of a planet / ya gets to steer ... ... / ... forever.

My 10/6 + thruppence tip

PS - Oh, one piece of general advice given me eons ago, which I find as fresh today:

You NEVER pass another car / bike / horse at > 15 mph delta-V.
Say you're at the ton acoomin-up on Ma & Pa Kettle at 50 -
You drop to 60ish for the pass.
For all obvious psych (freaking-out) and physics reasons.
(Fangio agrees, too)

Methinks many of those who die on the autobahn are somehow connected to an egomaniac passing at 150, a bunch of folk at 80-100. Dumb. Dead peacock + innocents.

"Chicago to my mind was the only place to be. ... I above all liked the city because it was filled with people all a-bustle, and the clatter of hooves and carriages, and with delivery wagons and drays and peddlers and the boom and clank of freight trains. And when those black clouds came sailing in from the west, pouring thunderstorms upon us so that you couldn't hear the cries or curses of humankind, I liked that best of all. Chicago could stand up to the worst God had to offer. I understood why it was built--a place for trade, of course, with railroads and ships and so on, but mostly to give all of us a magnitude of defiance that is not provided by one house on the plains. And the plains is where those storms come from." -- E.L. Doctorow

New I did
I don't care how competently you control the car. If you're pushing the margins of what you and the rest of traffic can handle, then you're a hazard to the road.

And before you throw the same NASCAR non-sequitor at me that you did at Peter, the NASCAR accident rate sucks. They may competently control their cars, but their driving is hazardous, and I don't want to be on the road with them.

Cheers,
Ben
