New I wonder if this is what Sarajevo, 1914 was like...
[link|http://www.lib.byu.edu/~rdh/wwi/comment/sarajevo.html|Sarajevo - June 28, 1914].

I find it hard to believe that Iran would let Israeli prisoners be transferred to its territory. They need plausible deniability.

These are certainly worrying developments, but AFAIK, so far, other states in the region aren't speaking out forcefully in an attempt to get Israel to stop. If/when they do, it'll get much more difficult for the various governments to stand down without a larger conflict.

Cheers,
Scott.
New Works both ways...
...if the other Islamic states don't make a fuss, they may be sowing the seeds to their own destruction.
New Part of that will depend on what Russia does.

New Russia is positioning itself
Hoping that the U.S. has overextended itself (much as it did in Afghanistan in the '80s). In case no one has noticed, the cold war is still alive and well - resurrected in part by the current aministration.
New Three way tug now

Both the current US and Russian administrations have had a hand in restarting the cold war.

But it's really a three way tug now. Russia, the US and China are all playing for political power globally. Both Russia and China are weak compared to the US, but neither can be ignored and China in particular has the money to expand their power very effectivly. Russia and China both have a stake in the US coming down a peg, but they are not allies, both would like to replace the US over the other one.

It so happens I'm half Chinese, half Cajun. There probably isn't an animal that creeps through the forest of swims in the water that's safe from me.
