New Suprme Court mostly upholds Texas redistricting
[link|http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/06/28/scotus.texasredistrict/index.html|CNN]
A portion of a controversial Texas congressional map was tossed out Tuesday by the Supreme Court, but the overall redistricting plan engineered by state Republicans was found to be proper.

The court nixed one small part for illegally diluting Latino votes. But they rejected the rest of the case.

This makes it legal to redistrict at any time, and that any degree of gerrymandering for political advantage is legal. I expect a flood gate of state redistricting, and a substantial weakening of the democratic process.

New Of course, any weakening of the democratic process...
...strengthens the Republican process, don't it?

"So don't pay attention to the approval ratings that say 68% of Americans disapprove of the job this man is doing. I ask you this, does that not also logically mean that 68% approve of the job he's not doing? Think about it. I haven't."
Stephen Colbert, at the White House Correspondent's Dinner 29Apr06

To all those Republicans who supported this decision, now that you've seen the first Democrat-controlled legislatures put it to use, do you still think it was a good idea?
