New Anti Flag Burning Amendment to Constitution fails in Senate.
[link|http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=109&session=2&vote=00189|The Vote]. It was 66 in favor, 34 opposed. It failed by 1 vote.

There are some surprising votes. Why on Earth did Reid (Senate minority leader) and Feinstein (both Democrats) vote for it? Why did Bennett and McConnell (both Republicans) vote against it?

The good guys and gals won. So far, it's not looking like the right-wing Republicans are going to have much to run on this Fall.

Cheers,
Scott.
New I don't know a whole lot about Feinstein . . .
. . but everything I've heard indicates she ain't too bright, and also not particularly in favor of individual rights and liberties. She's been a real big supporter of DRM and domestic spying.

New Actually failing is often the goal
Actually, when bringing total stupidity before Congress, failing is often the goal. Most of the people for this have to know it's utterly empty of value, but they also know it will make for good campaign ads to smear people who voted against.

New Like Jay said, they've got *plenty* to run on
They wanted to get all the "vulnerable" democrats on the record as being "in favor of flag burning".

New You'll note
that this is a full vote (as opposed to those voice votes that never seem to get recorded who voted for what).

Furthermore, it clearly shows who voted for what (even breaking it down to by state).

New Bill of Rights is still safe...for now.
And I'm starting to think that BeeP is right: The Democrats are a spineless bunch of Wimplodyte fucktards.

"So don't pay attention to the approval ratings that say 68% of Americans disapprove of the job this man is doing. I ask you this, does that not also logically mean that 68% approve of the job he's not doing? Think about it. I haven't."
