White House aide Karl Rove, U.S. President George W. Bush's top political adviser, will not be charged in the CIA leak case, his lawyer said on Tuesday.
"On June 12, 2006, special counsel Patrick Fitzgerald formally advised us that he does not anticipate seeking charges against Karl Rove," Rove's lawyer, Robert Luskin, said in a statement.
This is coming from Rove's lawyer not Fitzgerald, but there is nothing contradicting it. Fitzgerald apparently is saying nothing, none of the articles I have seen so far have anything from Fitzgerald's office.
Rather disappointing, but you never know, Rove might not be guilty. More likely is that he has cut some deal with Fitzgerald, turning evidence to avoid prosecution. Most likely at this point seems to be that Rove is guilty, but Fitzgerald knows he can't prove it.
