New blockquote style
Any complaints? This is a blockquote using the new CSS class (brutally robbed from Peter, but not for Paul's sake). Anyone like it? Anyone hate it? Votes for status quo vs. righteous change appreciated.

Just a question
How do you make it happen? I mean, what are the commands to put in front and back, because I've written down the ones we have now.
Thanks.

Nice
Keep it. Maybe a paler shade for the background color though. It's a little bright.

Here's the code - go play.
body.IWETHEY blockquote {\r\n border : 2px solid black;\r\n background-color: #FFFFCC;\r\n color : #000;\r\n padding : 10px;\r\n} \r\n\r\nTwiddle away!

Re: Here's the code - go play.
Hmmm, how do I incorporate all that into this form:
< blockquote type="cite" >
< /blockquote >
What I mean is, what do I put at the front and back of the quote to make it work?
(And yes, I know I spaced it, so that you'd see what I mean. I know when it's really a blockquote, it has to be right up against the words).

huh?
You have to put something at the front and back of a paragraph to make it format, don't you?

Or ...
... and I'm only saying this because I have no clue what performance impact it would have ... have a user preference for the color. If I really care I can just make my own stylesheet and apply it here, but it'd be handy to be able to do it from the prefs. Same as with the font chooser.

Re: Or ...
Thing is, by the time you've arsed around with a colour picker finding the exact shade you want, you might as well just update your own stylesheet.
A pref would be nice, but it wouldn't actually save all that much work.

How easy are "user stylesheets" in IE6? (Work system)
Never mind, found it. Under freaking "Accessibility". Yeah, I understand the logic of why, but it's not the first place I'd think to look for it. Not by a long shot.

Re: Or ...
This is basically going to be "add it this way" or not, or at the most a user preference that says turn it on or off.

It's different.
It's not as obvious, to me anyway, that it's a quotation (compared to the blue vertical line). It's something I could get used to without much trouble though.
This [link|http://www.mandarindesign.com/style.html#blockquoteimage|blockquote with images] style is appealing, but care would have to be used to keep it from looking like a cartoon (and people scaling their text to different sizes might make the quote images look mis-sized). And people blocking images would cause borkage.
FWIW.
Cheers, Scott.

The Blue Line
is a Gecko-ism. People using IE/Safari/Opera don't see it. I'd really like something like: Quotee said:Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. However, as Scott pointed out, that'd take a bit longer than 15 seconds to do automagically. The code to override the blockquote is trivial, as my post above shows. With a little help from the server (mainly by putting class definitions in the container tags we want to override), your userContent.css file can become a very powerful customisation tool.

Hmmm
I use Opera and I see it. That is, if you are referring to the blue line down the left side of the blockquote.

Ok, but going back to Usenet days, ...
Quoted text was set off by some character, e.g. ">", not just an indentation. I like your version/admin's latest version, but wouldn't want it to be too automagical - I wouldn't want the "Quotee said:" to be too annoying to override. Quamquam, simul atque. Please don't make me learn CSS right now. Ich habe zu viel zu tun! I like the change. :-) Cheers, Scott.

Indentation?
What is your quest? What is you favorite color? What's the air speed velocity of an unladen swallow? Why is your original not indented, but mine is? And can you put a margin on the right side as well?

On my browser...
...it's indistinguishable from <blockquote type=cite>. What am I supposed to see that's different?
[Edit: Upon further review after reading the entire thread (!), it seems that, because I have told Firefox to use my colors not the site's, that the K3wl new coloring stuff is made to go away. So looking like a cite is OK, I guess...
