This is interesting
Over at AtariAge somebody posted [link|http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=87346|Anyone gonna buy Vista when it comes out?] The responses are predominantly nope, moving to or have OS X, or moving to or have Linux.

What's in it for a gamer?
Halo 2? So you spend (say) $200 on an OS that's going to slow down your computer just so you can play the PC version of a game that's at best mediocre (Halo = poo. Only the XBox people got excited about it, and Halo 2 is just more Halo) and the thick end of 2 years old?
What a deal!
Also, your link is broken.

Only one person mentioned Halo 2

I don't know anybody that is looking forward to Vista
I don't know anybody, gaming or buisness that is looking forward to Vista. The most positive I have heard is 'I might get it if a cool game comes out that requires it.' MS seems to be moving to work that angle hard, but they are going to need some better games.
The buisness people I talk too (mostly from the techy end) are looking at it with a sense of dread. Reorganized interface means lots of upgrade support, hardware requirements that few buisness machines meet will be a problem .
Most of then have not really looked into the question yet though, as nobody expects it to be a serious question till this time next year at the earliest.

My neighbor (who works QA there)
tells me the compelling reason to get it is improved security. Like IE runs in a sandbox where it can't access system resources now. But that's pretty much it.

That's unpossible
IE is an integral part of the OS. How could it run in a sandbox? You must have heard that wrong.

The sandbox is also an integral part of the OS
and IE runs inside of it.
So it is all integrated into the OS.
