Welcome to IWETHEY!

New IWETHEY ++
One of the recruting companies I've been talking too came through. Put me in touch with a company looking for a full time web developer. Unless a snag comes up, I'll be starting Monday. C#.NET and maintaining some old C++ programs.

The company is in downtown Philly, so I'm going to be riding the rails into town every day and probably moving someplace closer fairly quickly. That is going to cost me a big chunk of money, but I'm also getting a big pay raise over my last posistion.

Jay
New Excellent news Jay!
New Yay! Good news.

As hopeless as it seems in the middle,
Or as finished as it seems in the end.

New Superb!
The time riding the rails could be productive. You can read, listen to a MP3 player, do stuff on a laptop, etc. Driving has fewer options.

When fascism comes to America, it'll be wrapped in a flag and carrying a cross. -- Sinclair Lewis
New Not as expensive as I thought either
I was checking the SEPTA rates, and while the single ticket prices seem a little high there is a monthly pass that is a good deal. The monthly Trailpass from where I am is only $145. When you figure what I'll be saving on gas, that is nearly a wash right there. And if you add in parking it is a good deal.

Jay
New Wish I could take the train again
How do you put a dollar figure on that hour a day spent not fighting traffic?

New Way to go, Jay!
New Very nice
Next lunch is on you.
New Want to do Monday?
They bumped my starting date to Tuesday because the division manager won't be in Monday. I'll need Friday to clean up the rest of the stuff I'm doing for the company I'm part timing with, so I've got exactly one free day.

Jay
New Too busy right now
Let's think a few months out.
New Cha-Ching! Good news.
I have come to believe that idealism without discipline is a quick road to disaster, while discipline without idealism is pointless. -- Aaron Ward (my brother)

New Well done. Great news
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. (Herm Albright)
New Move to Jersey
Some nice places close to the speedline and you aren't paying dtown prices.

Otherwise you could move into the neighborhoods. Some nice parts of southwest that you can trolley in from.

New *Lots* of places
[link|http://www.septa.org/maps/click_map.html|http://www.septa.org/maps/click_map.html]

From my parents' house to 30th St. Station is a half-hour. If you can't find something that you like near a train stop, you're either way too picky or not trying very hard.

New Done good!
Two out of three people wonder where the other one is.
New Very nice to hear!
This place -- the whole site, not the Jobs forum -- was getting a bit lopsided with death, illness, and other calamities... Thanks for bringing us *good* news, Jay! :-)

New Amusing first day
I arrived in the mist of a major crisis, so my new project manager and divison manager didn't have time to talk to me. Plus, the new system administrator they are hiring doesn't start till the 30th, and nobody could spare time to do more then setup the barebones on my system.

So pretty much I read C++ code and filled out paper work today. Eventually I may find out what the job entails.

Jay
New Wing it.
At least they had a barebones running for you.

Some places expect you as a developer to setup your whole machine the way you like it... period.

Anyway, good luck and grab a firehose.

"So don't pay attention to the approval ratings that say 68% of Americans disapprove of the job this man is doing. I ask you this, does that not also logically mean that 68% approve of the job he's not doing? Think about it. I haven't."
Stephen Colbert, at the White House Correspondent's Dinner 29Apr06
New Wonderful!
That's great news, Jay!
