New Movies in 10 minutes?
[link|http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12694081/|Warner Bros deal w/ BitTorrent]

quote:

Ideally, once a particular movie has been "seeded" on the system,
Warner Bros. estimates a download could take as little as 10 minutes.
TV shows could take even less time to download because the files
are much smaller.

I wonder what bit rate they are dreaming of?
Or what compression scheme they have up their sleeve?

A 4 GB movie in 600 seconds would have to dl at over 6 MB/sec

New /me raises his hand...
When it is working, that is.

I routinely get over 1100 KBytes/sec. (better than 10Mbit/sec connection)

100Mbit/sec service isn't to far away... really. In Japan, it is typically the norm in many places.

The US is 16th on the Broadband leaders list.

New Re: /me raises his hand...
yeah I get speeds like that but with a 30 Mb conection
to get 50+ Mb off a 100Mb conection could be problematic
in the real world as well as futuristic

I suspect a phony press release or a compression scheme to
give sub-DVD quality
(and it still won't dl in 10 minutes)
