Look at what truly free markets have wrought in countries that listened to Friedman et al. For instance Chile under Pinochet. Currently Eastern Europe is littered with the train wrecks from those who tried to go to capitalism too fast, one of the worst of which is Russia. (Seriously, the quality of life degraded so far, so fast in Russia that many look back on the Communists with nostalgia.)
