New Yet another retired general says Rumsfeld should go
This is the 4th one in a month. This one turned down an offer to become the second most senior general in the army because he no longer wanted to serve under Rumsfeld.

New Up to six now

Two more retired US generals called overnight on Donald Rumsfeld to resign as US defence secretary, adding to a deepening rift within the Pentagon.

Six generals - two of whom commanded troops in Iraq - have now called on Mr Rumsfeld to stand down over his leadership of the war.

One or two you can write off as guys disgruntled about not getting another star, but this is looking like a full scale rebellion.

And is doubly interesting because of the timing. If their main reason to be upset with Rumsfeld was really the Iraq war I think this would have boiled over some time ago. I suspect that a big part of this is something currently happening or in planning that the generals can not talk about.

New Perhaps we should start a betting pool on whether he will
be out of this administration in the next 6 months.

I'd bet not. But it is not impossible.

Cheers,
Ben

PS I just got your "planning something" reference. D'oh. Iran.

New Normally I would be all over that bet
Normally I would be all over that bet, but with this administration I would have to put my money on he stays also. Short of the joint chiefs of staff walking out, Bush will not force Rumsfeld to go and I don't think Rumsfeld will go on his own even if he becomes totally ineffectual due to staff rebellion.

Heck, we have a VP that got drunk and shot somebody and didn't have to resign.

New And Wesley Clark makes seven.
New He was on PBS's Nightly News segment as well.
He accounted for himself pretty well.
